Stroll Through the Living Legacy Gardens
The Living Legacy Gardens are public gardens established in 2001 at the Central Lakes College Ag Center—a true gem of the Staples area. These gardens will spark creativity and tap into your imagination.
This ten-acre public garden just outside of the downtown Staples area has a park-like setting you will want to discover over and over again to see what is newly blooming spring through fall. With an orchard, vineyard, and a native prairie there are several serene spots to relax, play, or picnic as you unplug and unwind. (These public gardens are also a destination on the Staples bike trail.) Come take a walk, sit by the pond or in the gazebo or in the shade garden.
Living Legacy Garden is designed to offer lifelong learning on horticulture related subjects as well as to demonstrate plants suitable for growing in hardiness zone three. The gardens currently demonstrate annuals and perennials for sun or shade, herbs, fruits, and water gardening. Various landscaping styles are used to show visitors options for their own use. Children’s classes such as fairy garden making, pottery painting and more are offered through community ed!
Visitors are welcome to enjoy the Living Legacy Garden at any time. Guided garden tours include information on how the garden began, its history, and the opportunity to ask questions about plants and growing conditions. Schedule your tour during summer months by calling (218) 894-5123.
