Take the Barn Quilt Tour
Grab a “Barn Quilts of Central Minnesota Trail Map” at the Staples Historic Depot or pull it up online and go hunting for barn quilts. Barn quilts are quilt blocks painted on wood and mounted on barns, buildings, fences, or posts.
The Central Minnesota Barn Quilt Trail winds through four counties—Wadena, Todd, Cass, and Morrison. These unique and colorfully painted squares have a rich history in rural areas throughout the United States. Each barn quilt tells a story—about its owner, the property’s history, or a memory. The barn quilt trail map will help you find your way along the Staples barn quilt trail—the largest of the five—where 40 barn quilts can be viewed. In all, there are more than 120 barn quilts on the barn quilt trail map, though there are more are added all the time! This open-air art gallery is available all year round. Walk through downtown for a pleasant afternoon of discovery or take a drive to explore scenic parts of this beautiful area. Make a weekend of it and find all of them!
