Hike & Bike Our Trails
Get outside and get moving on Staples bike and hiking trails!
The Legacy Trail is a 3.5-mile paved bike trail that runs from Living Legacy Gardens in the north past the Highway 10 overpass and is great for biking, walking, and jogging. It winds through and past beautiful open areas and mature, tall evergreens. The Staples Trail Map outlines the entire bike trail and many shorter walking routes.
If the unexpected occurs, cyclists can take advantage of two repair stations before getting back on the bike trail. They are located at Staples Community Center (425 4th St NE, Staples) and along the Legacy Trail at the corner of Summit and Airport Road.
Old Wadena Park (13491 Old Wadena Cir. Staples) is a beautiful environmental park offers walking and hiking trails, a footbridge across Leaf River, and a unique bogwalk. The bogwalk stretches fully from one side of the bog to the other. Stop and learn about the wetlands animals and plant life at learning stations positioned throughout the bogwalk.
The trails are all well-kept and include a 1.0-mile loop trail. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 21 minutes to complete. This trail is great for cross-country skiing, fishing, and hiking, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
For more rustic hiking trails, head to Pine Grove Park or Dower Lake Recreation Area parks for nature trails in and around scenic wooded areas. There are plenty of activities available at both parks so plan to spend the day. Hike, picnic, playground, frisbee golf, and repeat!
